Market & Game Performance

Dynamic ranking: Open-world RPGs, Roguelikes, and long-running titles drive movement in the Top 50 revenue chart

Appmagic data this week shows that Vietnam’s Top 50 mobile game revenue chart recorded a clear differentiation across three groups: gacha/open-world titles with major events, newly launched products released in recent weeks, and long-running games returning to the ranking through player reactivation activities.

Rank Spike: Titles with significant ranking increases

During the week, several titles recorded ranking increases of 10 positions or more compared with the previous week. Highlights include:

  • Genshin Impact – Funtap rose 15 positions to #24, with estimated revenue of around $33.4K.
  • Cơ Giáp Vô Hạn – Gamota rose 10 positions to #26, with estimated revenue of around $28.2K.
  • Call of Dragons – Funtap rose 14 positions to #42, with estimated revenue of around $16.4K.
  • Golf Clash – Golfing Simulator rose 69 positions to #45, with estimated revenue of around $16.0K.

The most notable case this week was Genshin Impact – Funtap. Its 15-position rise took place during the same week that Genshin Impact entered Version 6.6, with Phase 1 starting on May 20 and running until June 9. This phase featured the Nicole and Durin banners, alongside the new 4-star character Prune being boosted on both banners. This type of update cycle often creates a concentrated spending effect, especially among players who have accumulated resources for new banners.

In addition to the banners, the “Phantasmal Pals” event also began on May 22, offering in-game rewards such as Primogems, Crown of Insight, and the limited weapon outfit “Super Awesome Magic Key.” With both new banners and a new event falling within the May 18–24 observation week, the combined effect of FOMO, event rewards, and demand for new content may have supported both player return activity and top-up behavior.

The key point is that Genshin’s increase did not come only from the strength of its brand. It also reflects the familiar power of live-ops in major gacha titles: when banners, events, and new content are launched at the same time, revenue often tends to concentrate in the early days of the patch.

Revenue Spike: No revenue growth exceeding the 100% threshold

This week did not record any Revenue Spike cases based on the threshold of revenue growth of 100% or more. This suggests that this week’s movements were driven more by ranking increases and returns to the chart than by major revenue breakouts across the overall market.

New Release & Back-to-top: Home Scapes enters the Top 50, while Call of Dragons and Golf Clash return to the ranking

In the New Release segment, Home Scapes – Ngôi nhà mơ ước entered the Top 50 revenue chart at #47, with estimated revenue of around $15.8K. The title belongs to the Match-3 genre and was released on April 21, 2026, meeting the criteria of a game launched within the past three months and not appearing in the Top 50 in the previous week.
In the Back-to-top segment, Call of Dragons – Funtap and Golf Clash – Golfing Simulator returned to the Top 50 after a period of absence. Notably, Golf Clash rose by 69 positions, suggesting the possibility of reactivation activities or a short-term campaign that brought players back during the week. However, for Back-to-top titles, it is necessary to continue monitoring the next 1–2 weeks to assess whether this reflects sustainable growth or only a short-term recovery.

Market Performance & Industry Trends: Vietnam continues to strengthen its advantage in mobile game download scale

During the week, Gigazine published an article stating that Vietnam has risen to become a major gaming nation, ranking second globally in mobile game downloads, behind only China. According to the article, mobile game downloads in Vietnam are projected to reach 4.9 billion in 2025, while the country currently has around 210 active game studios, mainly concentrated in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

The article also mentioned Vietnam GameVerse 2026 as a milestone that further reflects the rising position of Vietnam’s game industry, with the event attracting 35,000 participants from 25 countries and featuring esports teams from all 11 ASEAN countries. However, the most important point in this news remains the market scale story: Vietnam is increasingly being seen not only as a large player market, but also as an increasingly important link in the regional gaming value chain.

This is a positive signal for Vietnam’s game industry, especially as local studios need to convert their download-scale advantage into stronger revenue generation, IP development, and long-term operational capabilities.

Industry & Business Developments

Featured Vietnamese Studios: Vietnamese studios strengthen their global position in Simulation, Puzzle, and Arcade

Source: VietnamNet

According to VietnamNet, Vietnam currently leads the world in total downloads across the Simulation, Puzzle, and Arcade game categories. Sensor Tower data shows that Vietnam accounts for 10.93% of global downloads across these three genres, equivalent to nearly 3.3 billion installs, surpassing major markets such as China, Hong Kong, and the United States.

This achievement is closely tied to the role of Vietnamese publishers such as ABI Games Studio, Falcon Game Studio, Amanotes, iKame – Zego Studio, and XGame Studio. Notably, Simulation, Puzzle, and Arcade currently account for 66% of total downloads from Vietnamese games, while 78% of new users over the past year came from titles released before 2025. This shows that many Vietnamese products not only achieve large scale at launch, but also maintain long-term appeal.

From a strategic perspective, GameGeek noted that Vietnamese studios are shifting away from short-lifecycle hyper-casual models and focusing more on Simulation, Puzzle, and Arcade — genres with deeper gameplay and stronger user retention potential. Among them, next-generation Puzzle subgenres such as Screw, Match Pair, Sort, and Block are becoming notable financial growth drivers, contributing 38% of total IAP revenue. The growth rate of these newer game categories reached 83.04%, while 73% of Vietnamese studios have adopted hybrid monetization models combining IAP and advertising.

This is an important signal because the growth of Vietnamese games is no longer only about download volume. As studios begin to demonstrate long-term operational capabilities and optimize retention, ARPU, and monetization mix, Vietnam’s position in the eyes of international investors and publishers will become more substantial. This is also a reasonable direction for studios that want to reduce dependence on the short lifecycle of hyper-casual games and build more sustainable competitiveness in the global market.
