Market & Game Performance
Dynamic ranking: Light and Night and Thú Cưng Bão Đạn enter the Top 50, while HÀNH TRÌNH AFK climbs 74 places
AppMagic data this week shows notable movement across Vietnam’s Top 50 mobile games by revenue. Five titles climbed at least 10 positions from the previous week, while two games released within the past three months moved into the Top 50. No title recorded revenue growth of 100% or more this week. [1]
Rank Spike: Titles with significant ranking gains
Five titles climbed by at least 10 positions compared with the previous week:
- Light and Night rose 44 places to #28, with estimated revenue of around USD 18,210.
- Thú Cưng Bão Đạn rose 47 places to #32, with estimated revenue of around USD 16,356.
- Dynasty Warriors: Overlords rose 43 places to #41, with estimated revenue of around USD 14,765.
- HÀNH TRÌNH AFK – TRAVELLET VN rose 74 places to #45, with estimated revenue of around USD 12,811.
- Top Eleven: Quản Lý Bóng Đá rose 19 places to #48, with estimated revenue of around USD 12,246. [1]
Among them, Light and Night was particularly notable, ranking highest among the Rank Spike titles while also recording strong revenue growth from approximately USD 9,386 in the previous week to USD 18,210 this week, equivalent to an increase of around 94.01%.
The rise coincided with the launch of Light and Night’s Silk Tree Blossom Festival on August 4. The event introduced the limited Embers of an Endless Dream banner, featuring limited 6-Star Bonds alongside a series of activities running through August 14. [2]
Launching the event at the beginning of the week may have helped bring players back and increase in-game activity. Event rewards provided an additional incentive to re-engage, while limited Bonds created further motivation for players looking to complete their collections.
The case of Light and Night further highlights the role of LiveOps in sustaining game performance after launch. When limited-time content, rewards, and monetization activities are deployed together, they can give players multiple reasons to return, stay engaged, and spend.
New Release: Light and Night and Thú Cưng Bão Đạn enter the Top 50
Two games released within the past three months, which ranked outside the Top 50 last week, moved into the Top 50 this week:
- Light and Night, at #28, with revenue of around USD 18,210.
- Thú Cưng Bão Đạn, at #32, with revenue of around USD 16,356. [1]
Both moved into the middle of the ranking rather than entering near the bottom of the Top 50. This is a positive signal during their early months of operation, although their ability to maintain these positions in the coming weeks will provide a clearer indication of their longer-term appeal and LiveOps effectiveness.
Back-to-top: Three titles return to the Top 50
Three games released more than three months ago returned to the Top 50 after being outside the ranking in the previous week:
- Dynasty Warriors: Overlords, at #41, with revenue of around USD 14,765.
- HÀNH TRÌNH AFK – TRAVELLET VN, at #45, with revenue of around USD 12,811.
- Top Eleven: Quản Lý Bóng Đá, at #48, with revenue of around USD 12,246. [1]
Among them, HÀNH TRÌNH AFK – TRAVELLET VN recorded the largest ranking gain of the week, climbing 74 places. The return of titles across Action RPG, Idle RPG, and Sports Manager shows that revenue reactivation is not concentrated in a single genre, but depends heavily on new content and how individual games continue to engage their player communities.
Market Performance & Industry Trends: Local culture is becoming an increasingly visible source of inspiration for Vietnamese games
On August 7, Nhân Dân published an article highlighting the growing use of Vietnamese history, everyday life, and culture in locally developed games. Titles such as Tiệm phở của anh Hai, Chạy trốn phồn hoa, Nam Quốc Sơn Hà, and Lạc Thần Chiến Ca were cited as examples of games using local cultural elements to build a more distinctive identity. [3]
The trend comes as software and entertainment games have been identified as one of six priority cultural industries in Vietnam. The article also noted a longer-term direction to commission one to three flagship games each year to support education and promote the country’s image. [3]
Drawing on Vietnamese cultural elements can help studios build IPs with stronger identities rather than competing solely through gameplay or graphics. For international developers looking to enter Vietnam, the trend also suggests that localization can go beyond language translation by adapting stories, visual elements, or in-game activities to better resonate with local players.
However, cultural elements alone do not guarantee commercial success. Their effectiveness will still depend on how well they are combined with the right genre, strong gameplay quality, and a sustainable long-term operation strategy.

Esports Highlights & Tournament Updates: Vietnamese representatives make their mark across multiple international competitions
Team Secret Whales secures a place at the 2026 League of Legends World Championship
Team Secret Whales continued its strong performance in LCP 2026 Stage 3 by securing a place in the Playoffs. Thanks to results accumulated across the previous two stages and its advantage in Championship Points, the team officially became the first Asia-Pacific representative to qualify for the 2026 League of Legends World Championship. [4]
The milestone is notable because the World Championship berth was built on Team Secret Whales’ consistent performance throughout the season rather than a single late-stage breakthrough. It demonstrates that a Vietnamese representative can maintain competitiveness within the wider Asia-Pacific tournament system.
Competing on League of Legends’ biggest international stage will also give the team and Vietnam’s esports ecosystem greater exposure to global audiences, further strengthening the market’s visibility within the region.
FC Mobile Vietnam secures four World Championship slots
From August 6 to 9 in Bangkok, the FC Pro Mobile Mid-Season Playoffs 2026 brought together 24 players and marked the first appearance of Vietnamese FC Mobile representatives at a global-level tournament. Vietnam was represented by Phạm Anh Tú and Nguyễn Hoàng Bảo. [5]
Both players reached the Top 8, officially bringing Vietnam’s total number of slots at the FC Pro Mobile World Championship 2026 to four. [6]
The result highlights the role of domestic competition in creating a pathway from local communities to the global stage. For competitive live-service games, esports can do more than generate promotional content: it can help build communities, sustain player interest, and create milestones that give players additional reasons to remain connected with the game.
Team Flash advances directly to the PUBG Mobile World Cup 2026 Grand Finals
On August 9, Team Flash completed the PUBG Mobile World Cup 2026 Group Stage with 89 points, including 58 elimination points, two Top 2 finishes, and one Winner Winner Chicken Dinner. The Vietnamese representative finished in the Top 4 of Group A and secured direct qualification for the Grand Finals without having to compete in the Survival Stage. [7]
Notably, Team Flash was only seventh after the first day of competition but delivered a significantly stronger performance across the next six matches to move into the leading group. The PUBG Mobile World Cup 2026 Grand Finals are scheduled for August 14–16. [7]
Alongside the achievements of Team Secret Whales and Vietnam’s FC Mobile players, Team Flash’s performance shows that Vietnamese esports is gaining international visibility across multiple competitive ecosystems, from MOBA and mobile football to battle royale. This diversity is a positive signal for publishers and brands looking to engage with Vietnam’s competitive gaming audience.
Industry & Business Developments
Featured Vietnamese Developers: Bánh Mì Bách Khoa surpasses 10,000 copies sold in two weeks
On August 3, indie developer Marisa0704 announced that The HUST Banhmi – Bánh Mì Bách Khoa had sold more than 10,000 copies in just two weeks, surpassing the project’s initial target. After reaching this milestone, the developer made the itch.io version free to allow more players to access the game, while keeping the paid Steam version available for those who wish to continue supporting the project. [8]
The game continues the style that previously helped Tiệm phở của anh Hai stand out, drawing on familiar elements of Vietnamese everyday life such as bánh mì, the area surrounding Hanoi University of Science and Technology, colloquial language, and locally rooted humor. [8]
For a solo-developed Vietnamese indie game to surpass 10,000 copies in a short period is a notable signal for the local game ecosystem. The case shows that even a relatively small-scale concept can attract attention when accessible gameplay is combined with a setting and language distinctive enough for players to recognize and share.
The decision to make the itch.io version free after reaching the initial sales target also offers an interesting approach to the indie game lifecycle: monetizing first among players willing to pay, then expanding reach once the project has achieved its initial commercial objective. However, a short-term sales milestone alone is not enough to determine whether the game can develop into a long-term IP; its ability to sustain a community and support future projects will be more important to watch.
