Game is expected to become Vietnam’s new smokeless industry, contributing to the digital transformation and digital economy development.
Game is one of the fast-growing fields and is gradually getting attention along with the development of the information technology industry. In 2022, the global game industry’s revenue will reach more than 200 billion USD, while Vietnam alone is estimated at more than 660 million USD.
Mr. Le Quang Tu Do expressed his expectation that the game will be one of the spearheads of Vietnam’s digital economy
According to the Director of the Department of Broadcasting and Electronic Information (Ministry of Information and Communications) – Mr. Le Quang Tu Do, Vietnam currently has about 28.2 million game players, and that is the desired number of many countries in the world.
“Games are one of the rare fields of Vietnam that can export digital content to the world. It is a strength that needs to be developed and we expect it to be a spearhead industry in digital transformation and development of Vietnam’s digital economy shortly”, Mr. Le Quang Tu Do shared with Thanh Nien on the sidelines of the event announcing the Vietnam Game Festival 2023 in Hanoi on the morning of December 20.
Also at the program, the Department’s leader said that the first Game Festival held in Vietnam with a focus on the Vietnam Game Awards 2023 (launched on January 1, 2023, awarded in March 2023) will be a playground for businesses. Businesses in this field connect with each other and domestic and foreign investment funds. In addition, there will be an eSports game tournament with the participation of professional players, and celebrities in the gaming industry taking place in March 2023.
NewZoo’s Global Game Market Report 2020 once assessed that Vietnam has great potential and makes a breakthrough in the “game field” in the world. From the “phenomenon” Flappy Bird (2014) up to now, there are 5 Vietnamese enterprises in the list of leading game companies in Southeast Asia and the Pacific in terms of global game downloads. For every 25 games downloaded in the world, one is produced by a Vietnamese company.
